Where the deepest squirrel dwells,
there my heart is lost and found:
all my fountains, all my wells
flow from skies deep in the ground
Here an eye has opened, see:
Here a rainbow's dawn has broken;
here the chord of thee and me
crosses streams and has awoken
Ah, the violin that played it
shall be seized to be its token
Lifetimes came and passed, we waited-
Loves unlived and words unspoken
were my lives and thine, and are
butterflies wrapped in black veils
Far we've come and stayed afar
and unheard go our tales
What but words can poets sing?
What but scars do we possess?
Everything of everything
is, to strangers, meaningless
Now, oh squirrel, let me break
through the image of my rhyme:
Drown, sun, all candles, for thy sake
to break the chains of love and time!
