For those who care for others...I cared for my severely retarded sister when I was young; have worked in hospitals, nursing homes and private homes;helped to care for my eldest sister with cancer; I am now caring for my son...
LORD,
When I am weary, give me strength:
Help me to remember that my fatigue
Pales to the pain and helplessness
Suffered by those in my care
When I am in despair, give me hope:
Help me to see beyond this moment
And remind me that our lives
Are ultimately in your hands
When I am angry, give me mercy:
Help me accept this emotion
Bestow grace to banish self-pity
Restore my equilibrium
When I am afraid, give me faith:
Help me to push through darkness
Give me the courage to go on
Not knowing what lies ahead...
Thank you for caregivers everywhere... we don't ask for pity or symphaty, just a little friendship, someone to listen, and keep us in your prayers... powerful write... I pray your son is OK...
Thank you for this heartfelt write, Linda. I pray for strenght, wisdom and equilibrium, too, as I care daily for my very dear mother, who has begun to slowly fades from this incarnation... Peace and blessing be with you, Poetess.

Linda, we seem to have somewhat parallel lives. My son has battled mental health evils, schizophrenia, bi-polar, and my dad is now struggling with dimentia. I stand in the middle of their agonies and this, your gentle, quietly pleading poem has helped my day, my outlook, my whole attitude.
I will keep this in my library in AD...BUT... I will also print it to carry with me, referring to it when I forget. The writing is so very accessible and so beautiful. Thank you. katy xox

So, Ma'am, I have just read this on a Sunday morning when the homecare assistant for my 83-year-old mother has not shown up. Therefore, I have gotten her up, assisted with washing, lifted her 200 pounds bodily into a wheel-chair, administered medications, prepared breakfast, called the agency to inquire about the absence of the professional assistant, told myself that the pain in my back will be ok, prayed all morning as I prayed all last night, and followed my friend Christie's advice to remember to breathe. What can I say except Thank You.
A further collection of poems, many from years in the Middle East, but also the California San Francisco and Central Coast areas (Santa Cruz, Carmel, Big Sur, Berkeley, etc.).
inspired me.
