The infant’s cry of terror is the separation it feels at being born. My twin was dissolved in my mother’s womb. She never felt the heaviness of living. Her spirit walks inside my footprints and I trip on the words she whispers in my ear. Is my mind too small to contain them? Thoughts too sacred for words hang in the air, unspoken. I want a new language--one that fills the silent spaces that separate us from the stars. I touched those stars twice but was pulled back into my body--earthbound--a burden on my couch. At times I am overwhelmed by the weight.
Oh lonely, silent clouds adrift in a cold sky
One solitary bird poised against the wind
A life is spent waiting then looking behind
Hope and regret come in equal portions
A hope realized; sometimes an empty present
Regret; a reason to sorrow and be filled
Oh lonely, the memory of ephemeral joy
Promise frozen on the catkins of a willow
I can feel your sister's spirit within your words. She does whisper to you and you have survived for some reason. Perhaps your experience in life without her presence enables you to be such a wonderful writer with the ability to make others really see what you are saying.
Keep on writing I truly enjoy your work, and have a very blessed New Year!
Peace, love, and light,

I am an identical twin. My brother was born 5 minutes before me. We both have had the same spinal cord injury in C4-6 ('59--swimming,'96--skiing) and surgery ('63--paralysis, '97). Roger had a concussion at birth. I claim to have kicked him, but it was probably because Mom was 17 and had a spinal injury in her lower back ('26--high chair fall, '02--surgery. We will turn 70 at 5:01 pm 12/21/2012.
My younger twin brothers are fraternal and have no spinal injuries..
I don't place any Karma in all of this. You shouldn't either. This is a beautiful poem, but your sister is like mine who was stillborn, just a part of life. You survived to write poetry and live a wonderful life.

I have been told of twins feeling each other even apart from thousand of miles, so...it is not strange that they should feel each other through the spiritual world as well.
Great poem!
The songs and art in this book are about our collective emergence after the pandemic and trauma of the last few years - comprised of 5 collections: World as Refuge, Where We Live, In Our Hands, Rhythms of Change and What We See & Sow.
Each person is but a grain of sand resting beside the sea. This thought sets the tone for Jill Eisnaugle’s latest poetry collection, Beside Still Waters.
