Family and friends who continue to teach tell me they are either giving a test, checking a test or preparing to test. NCLB makes NO provision for the children in the class who are developmentally disabled, and NO these children do not all attend 'special class' nor should they. Despite enjoying the classroom for many years, I am glad I no longer teach.

How can everyone be so blind? I don't really understand Bush supporters - have you never heard one of is speeches?
-Yes, there are corrupt education managers, teachers, principals, etc. But it is rare - You know what the no-child-left-behind thing does? It makes the schools revolve around one test. Instead of preparing the children for life - they are preparing them for a test. Why? because if the children do good, the school gets more money. This is a very strange system to me, shouldn't the schools that do BAD get the money? They're the ones who need the help. Okay, im sure i don't have the facts exactly right, but thats the gist of it. Didn't mean to turn this into a political battle - Kerry wasn't exactly the brightest bulb on the tree either.
What I find intriguing is that some of the same "pro state rights" folk, after years of yelling state control to satisfy southern whites who wanted to strike down civil rights, now advocate Federal control. Politicians yell whatever suits them at the moment. It's a shell game and the marble's missing.
hahaha...only the Bush knows. I think he has a few screws loose. Reforming social security is one of them. If Congress would get their hands out of the till, there would be plenty. Even more if they paid back what they stole.
The joys of partisanship. The ending say's it all... perhaps the Clinton EPA or the Reagan Dept. of Transpertaion could provide you with additional subject matter.
I didn't see your poem as blaming Bush for anything. I saw it as a posit of a wise question. As a mother of a bright child still concerned that no child be "left behind," I personally don't feel so good about six weeks of school going to basic testing. Wherever one comes down on the particular issue, your point is quite well-taken. Dawn

You can bash Bush all you want to, and I know that you will, but the Federal Government has been SHOVELING money into the corrupt and mismanaged educational system of this country for many, many years. Look at most cities' schools and you will see falling down buildings, no air conditioning and inept plumbing, and that does not even address the inept teachers that roam the halls. Not all are inept, but there are enough that is becoming commonplace. So, go ahead blame George Bush for everything under the sun. I am quite sure you even begrudge him his next breath.
This is a book of free verse poetry that addresses the seven main tests in life and offers some sensible solutions to passing those tests with minimal discomfort.
