the happening
was unrecorded
except by a
crumpled wadded
poet of no stature
side standing
half hearing
near sighted
his fractured
recollection writ
in the stone of language
when published
its modest reception
belied the public
aclaim for the
solidarity the
poem engendered
its lightning bolt
impact as an
expolded tree trunk
instantly forced open
by the steam of sap
but in the end
it was mostly
just language
with an iota
of happening
and is not
to be trusted.
