they've run away
with my America

took glorification
of property

to great heights
at the expense of people

made objects important
made greed a virtue

where is it written that
an expensive car big house

fine dining fine wine
represent a good life

that celebrity and fashion
should be envied by all

emulated from birth
to death a life time

of material progress
blind to any other need

our sun is setting
it will continue to set

because our interests are
no bigger or beyond ourselves.

This is not just America, it has been repeated continuously through history because there is always someone who wants to be at the top, even in so-called communist/socialist countries, that end up with dictators. It seems governments are a tricky thing in real life as opposed to our Utopias and that is the tragedy that builds legs for cynics. Very thought-provoking, thanks for that.

Henry - My commentary on this is well based, for I believe every word you say, here. There's fsr too much money and value being placed on the wrong horses while you and I know that these horses are sick, wormy, and have never won a race in their SHORT lives.

Take a read on my posted poem, Feeding the Gods. It's all so true!
