"the welfare of the people has always been the alibi of tyrants..."
albert camus
the image has been seen throughout history tragedies mirrored through halls of valor and i'm always left with the same questions
temples made rubble libraries burned schools turned to stockades all meat for the cannibals of democracy
maybe there are no innocents left but there are still the undeserving the ones who need freedom the most are often the ones who suffer it's heavy hand the most
once upon a time wars were fought and battles waged for ideals the dream of something better equality truth freedom
what happened?
we sleep uncomfortably under a blanket of security our parents assuring us that the monsters real or imagined lie in wait under our national bed
we hunt for such a little rabbit in his pathetic hole while a madman waves his weapons and his victims for the world to see
we strive to stamp out the worker's paradise while slavery and genocide are tolerated for diplomacy
what happened?
like others before me i am attacked for my questions in the land of the free angry fingers holding bibles and guns accusing me of traitorous thought
i am not loyal to a nation who wages war for money or pride i am not loyal to a nation who holds christian value above human value i am not loyal to a nation who profiles me for being born brown i am not loyal to a nation founded by an ideal of freedom and built by slavery and near genocide
no
i am loyal to nothing
nothing but the dream that is america

It doesn't seem to be understood that you can love your country with passion, but revile it's government. The black and white mentality doesn't apply anymore. What's behind the values? What do we stand for? What's the agenda untold? Why do we take for granted that war and domination are just a fact of life to be tolerated for the sake of 'peace'? Why the arrogance toward our way of life-a life that has existed for a mere 200 odd years as opposed to cultures that have existed for thousands? Indeed, why are we traitors for questioning our leaders? Do we accept blindly what we are told and what we are given to spare ourselves fear? Well for those who choose not to question, I hope you enjoy the 'brave new world' and the leaders who will finally end on top after lying, murdering, pillaging and plundering their way to the apex---total world domination. Thank you, A*
I add my tears--but will still support the troops, who GO UNDER ORDERS. What atrocities are being carried out against OUR men and women?? We're supposed to sit back and take it? You can only be slapped so long before slapping back.
I also saw the picture of the American soldier and father with a bloodied baby and the picture in our own country of a fireman with a bloodied and dead baby. The world has seen it and yet it will be seen over and over again. In all countries on all shores. History repeats itself always when we fail to learn.
And what happened to that dream? Such a tearful write here, Alex, I saw the picture, remembered some memories of time of war that I did volunteer to attend and came home embittered with the same type of pictures logged into and saved for all time in my psyche...dreams I still have whenever I see pictures like this, but some of us MUST remember, and some of us, no matter the cost, MUST write of its horrors...***** 5 stars here Alex, wish this could be seen by the world...Ed
This book represents a thirty-day period of my poetry journal. Each poem addresses
the dominant thoughts occupying my mind during the early morning hours of a given
