Are you afraid of things that go bump in the night?

In The Night
by Barbara Lynn Terry

The dark shadows loom out at night,
Indifferent to the human plight,
And brings a sense of foreboding,
As we contemplate our scolding.

The night is for the shadows,
That haunt us in our gallows,
Of human fright and dare,
As we walk and beware,
Of the nighttime shallows.

Our bodies are but so frail,
Our screams like a banshee's wail,
We try to escape into the light,
But there is nowhere to turn
In the night.

I am amazed at times how awful things seem in the night and then seem not so bad in the daylight. But your sentiments can be applied in a lot of situations. Well done. Thank you. Love and peace to you,

This is one of your better poems and the analogy to the night can just as easily be applied to life as well. I think this one is intense and says so much more between the lines then it does in the lines. Well done Barbie.

Barbie, I have read much deeper in to this piece. In the first stanza I feel you are talking about your past, trying to be you, yet waiting for the scolding of others. Second stnaza: You wanted to hide but ventured out to explore the world.(3rd) It was scary, you were unsure about the others in the world so you ran back into the night. Enjoyed you poem very much.

Yes those bumps in the night can be scary but when they pull your toes and I mean this was real, that can startle the hell out of you. I had that happen for a week before it finally stopped.Good one Babs.
