A conversation I remembered, when I was 12½ years old.

March, 1961
by Barbara Lynn Terry

"Mother, may I know what this all about?"
"You know what! Why were you out?!"
"I asked if I go see my friend."
"That's it! This is the end!"
"Mother, why are you so mad?"
"I've had it! You are nothing but bad!"

I didn't know what to say,
It had been a very happy day,
Until I walked in the door,
That is when I almost hit the floor.

She yelled and screamed her tirade,
Raining down on my happy parade.
Everything was my fault,
In her anger I was caught,
Like a fish on a hook,
And Sad I could only look
Into her raging red eyes,
"Nothing good comes from guys!"

"You are just a stupid brat!
And just for all of that,
I am through with you,
Because you never listen or do
Anything I ever tell to you!"

"Mother, I..."
"Don't you look me in the eye!"
"Mother what is wrong with my friend?"
"You know prefectly well! This is the end!
I have had it! I am sending you away!"
"Mother, you said I could have the day."
"I never did!"
"Mother, why are you blowing your lid?
I've been really good."
"Not hanging with that hood!"
"Mother, my friend is really nice."
"Really? Good? Just like pesky mice!"

I hung my head, and went to bed,
I lay there thinking what she said.
What was it she thought I had done,
In March of nineteen sixty one?

Alright you Sweet Bratt, you brought tears to my eyes again, after reading all that! YOur Soul was scarred by your mother's Selfishness in herself and her own confusion! I'm glad you got this off your Chest BArb. I hope as time has moved on, you give her another chance to see how she once lashed out at you. She may ask forgiveness for what she put YOU through! YOu won't know- till you try! My heart and prayers are with you, if you do! This poem is Strong, Powerful and Life for some, you should of went to bed with a smile instead! WArm HuGs, Sheee
Just you know - NOMatter what has become of you *( from differ. circumstances) She should have had more patience! YOur heart is true BArbie! I feel it too! WArm Blessings!

One of the deepest fears that most mothers have is that they will leave their children with the hurt that your mother left you with. If she's passed away, I'm sure she now comprehends what she did and did not do for you Barbie. Someday when all is swept away and we are with God, I'm sure that your questions will be answered and all will be forgiven. Bless you dear. Michelle

What a sad moment to remember. How blinded was your mother for not seeing you for you. I know not every human sees things in their true light. I am happy that my mother wasn't like that. Glad those days are behind you. Good poem. A lot of strength in those speaking lines. Bravo Barbie!

She sounds like such a frightened person. Sad.
