When I was six I went to a one room school house about two miles from Uncle Joe's farm. It was a wonderful year. I went back in 2007 and this is what I saw.
The little white schoolhouse
stands on the hill, just
down the street from an
old saw mill
A tarnished bell hangs by
the way , a silent reminder
of another time, another day
The class room once filled
with desks and chairs ,is now
empty with no furniture there
The play ground is covered
with weeds and grass. A rusty
ole swing set stands alone
with its past
Years have brought their
changes which happen to us all.
Life's seasons come and go,
like autumn leaves that fall
Every now and then,
thoughts stray back to
yesteryear. I fondly
remember the little school house
with memories held forever dear.
Delightful! It brings the picture of your schoolhouse before me. It has a special tone of nostalgia that calls forth past memories and carefree youth.
Love, Connie
What a shame that time has diminished such precious memories but nothing can take away our past for it is forever tucked away deep within our heart. Thank you for sharing MaryGrace.
Some more wonderful memories from your nostalgic pen, MaryGrace. When my wife and I travel, we like stopping at preserved one room schoolhouses all around the country - we've found some marvelous ones.

Oh MaryGrace this is so beautiful. My first school house was in the traditional red and is now a museum piece in a local park. Only went for one year while the new traditional cement school was being built....
A lovely poem. Folks our age have a great deal to compare our present times to. In some ways the past was a much better place to be. I wouldn't trade my youthful years on the farm for anything. Hard work and frugal living taught me a great deal about life.
It's almost Christmas. Lynn Basil is writing her last book about a secret entrance into the magical doll land of Sha Bebe that she loves so much. Bagannos have taken over the world! Lynn finally meets her dolls in real life. Can she write in a Secret

A soft and gentle capture of other days and experiences, of what helped to form and direct us. Very fine indeed.
