I have Mama’s diamond ring

And Grandpa’s antique hutch

A collection of sentimental things

To the world, it isn’t much

But the best I leave for you

Are the things I didn’t use

Pieces of dreams and songs to sing,

An open door to a world of love

Here’s the laughter I didn’t let out

While worried about small things

Wear a smile and use it now

Enjoy the peace it brings

Here are the thank yous I forgot to say

For being here each new day

I have time that I didn’t spend

Taking you out for walks

time I should have spent with friends

or listening to you children talk

Here’s the freedom I buried inside

Bring it out and keep it alive

Greatest of all is the love I tucked away

Afraid that it might not be real

And the words I failed to say

To tell you how I feel

Listen carefully to me dear kids

Don’t do like your Mama did
