she ripped open
her shirt, showed
me her scars,

fire grew
hotter, whiskey
burnt my throat,

scars aren't
tarot, but you
can read them.

what I saw,
a cornfield burnt,
a scythe brand,

I looked in her eyes,
her religious past seared
an unholy reminder,

you need only
go to a campfire
with her,

scars make love
to other scars under
the stars in a bedroll,

the wood smoke
permeated our flannel
shirts, the owl knows about scars,

it's best not to
have a conversation
about scars at a campfire,

scars tell their
stories quiet, just
read them like tarot.

scars make love
to other scars under
the stars in a bedroll,

Yes indeed, sometimes it is best not to talk too much about those scars, they are there for a reason and most of the time that reason is personal. Good, Sage . . .

A witch burned at the stake? A breast cancer survivor? What caused these soul searing scars, and what can you do to make them better? I absolutely loved,

'scars make love
to other scars under
the stars in a bedroll,'

We're all imperfect, but acceptance and love is the first step in healing. One of your many bests, Sage. Well done.

(((HUGS))) love and Merry Christmas!, Karla. :)

I like this campfire poem that has a healing light, quietly illuminating the darkness and ache of old scars, teasing out the hurt
and providing succour.

merry christmas, poet!

are they mirrors
reflections of one
Twin flames
flickering as
they dance on wood
burning embers
souls union
united by log

I can’t think of a better way
To mend those brandish scars
Than to bare them to “Campfire Tales”
“scars make love
to other scars under
the stars in a bedroll,”

I sense such a meloncholy sadness in this write, yet a display of acceptance and sharing at the same time. Over time we all learn it is those same scars that give us character and strength, very deep writing...

Be always safe,
Karen

Sage, We all carry our battle scars, be it physical or mental, they are our trophies for being bold and brave and a survivor...Nicely done, very deeply moving.
Have a beautiful Holiday, and may the New Year bring light love and much peace!
hugs and warm healing energy your way,

Scars open us...more to be read there than in palms.
May we be read by orators who make our lives poetry.
Blessings to you...

SAGE, It depends on what kind of scars you are talking about. ..You should write more of these kind of poems. A Good Read!
