Another Day (She Snows the Nosegay)

city councilwoman
gets by on foolery,
another day she goes
unnoticed, another day
she snows the nosegay,
pocket full of posy, she'll
fall down,

silver screen
bigger than life,
a would-be politician,
noose hangs high in the
tree, one masked carnivore,
her raccoon eyes dilated, predator
debate on TV tonight, she sits nervously
in the studio chair, when the newscaster
asks her "what about extortion, what laws will
you sign, what about the bill on blackmail, should
a would-be politician resign?"

debate interrupted,
live crew on scene, religious
cult leader brought out of the isolated
woods in handcuffs, his Jesus a tormentor,
a thorn at his graying temple, too late to pray,

city councilwoman
leaves the studio chair,
her time cut short, another
day she goes unnoticed, another
day she snows the nosegay, pocket
full of posy, she'll fall down.
