we came from
the westerly wind
one pale, one black,
one red and one white
as in pulp scripture transformed
into folk heroes,

I wrote the Ballad
that would send us all
into Hollywood, living legends,
when I'm dead I want some outlaw
female to revise my Ballad far more
out of reverence than greed,

what we were
best known for
remains to be seen,
