took Madam Pearl DeVere
roses and whiskey today,
she rests in the section Anchoria Leland,
Mt. Pisgah cemetery was still as I passed
through the black wrought iron gates, the
olive green monstrosity made no noise, its
propellers silent but my heart beat like a whirligig
for I had just four-wheeled an alley behind a sleepy
row of cottages of the Old West, I was out surveying
notions and putting my spirit in property pins so close
to their relocated souls, really it’s heaven colored with
gold dust of 1897,
Wildwood paid me in quarters
and the longnecks were free,
cowboy cadillacs and u-hauls,
harleys and buckboards, valet
parked mine, and now the beer
sits in front of my computer back
home, and we’re burning midnight
oil, Madam Blaze Starr: Whiskey and
Sagebrush Truth in Eights and Aces.
