The Sundance Wives Unearthing: Cordero Rojo

Powder River
Basin, Cordero Rojo
mine where hooves transform
coal into polygamy's energy, the fire
produced blazes through The Sundance
Wives veins warming creations where gold
founded us, Rio Tinto group consolidation,

a mineral blacker
than Night of the Foal
pulled out of earth by dragline
excavators, Wyoming unearths
The Sundance Wives,

the mineral
readily combustible,
anthracite metaphorically
altered bituminous, graphite
sketched from our pencils that
draw those to us about your bigotry
and deception, by now it is illustrated
into the big picture,

Theophrastus said
among the materials
that are dug because
they are useful, those known
of coals are made of earth, and
once set on fire, they burn; they are
used by those of us who work in metals,

the composition
of funeral pyres in
the Bronze Age,

crucible test
free swelling index,
1500 degrees, all volatiles
are driven off, a small coke
button remains, we get it off,

conflagration,
coal cinders, fly ash,
horses broom tails Quaker
swish The Sundance Wives
unearthing.

I agree with Belle, I love the rawness of this one, it's gritty and earthy and the imagery sends me.

Check out my latest post "Secret Fantasies" written with a special man in mind..

Peace, love and light,

Sage I have always envied the raw reality with which you write and the way your stories wrap around the intellect and the physical senses in such a tangible way. I could smell the coal dust.

Brings to mind the trapped Chilean miners with all the digging, Sage. And, as they were set free at last, I am sure there is freedom waiting at the end of the tunnel for every woman blackened by bigotry and hardships.
I've been enjoying The Girl with the Dragon Tatto, a Swedish movie about violence against women. Powerful. And I'm sure you've seen it already, or even read the original books by writer, stig larsson.

Always high in imagery and expression. It is so expertly woven, this piece divine.

More wonderful imagery. To me the second stanza especially is breathtaking. I love your linguistic leaps and the sparks that come from them.
