High Achiever With a Non-Christian Likeability

we didn't
attempt to rob
the wells fargo
express car when we
heard mattie blaylock killed
herself with laudanum knowing wyatt earp
was at her bedside out of temporary commission
from that time on of his widower status that was
subject to one of us's writings speaking highly favorable
of wyatt and sorted religion that kept the bible in plain sight
of the whore's vials and sunday's off-white pearls

we didn't
grovel for fame
the saloon tested
our tolerance for
the complainers that
stated their complaints
after a few whiskeys when
we pushed the envelope to the
pony express taking the names
off in saddlebags for a quarter
to those who may care to read the
statements of discontent rather than
harry longabaugh's nom de voleur from
his hometown of sundance wyoming assuming
outlaws are more popular than grieving assemblages

we didn't
loaf and we
damn sure didn't
kill employment so
samuel longhorn clemens
could quill the quote don't go
around saying the world owes you
a living the world owes you nothing
it was here first...
and I said high achiever
with a non-christian likeability

Naw, I was talking about sorted religion, you know, like wheat from the chaff, the keeper and the toss-away, but sordid works very well, too, Ron. I like run-on sentences in my poetry, punctuation and caps distract, but I'm just grateful for any way my readers want to read it, with pauses or running out of breath...thanks for your patronage, you're always so generous in your reviews...stay well.

I sure like your run-on sentences leading to the final conclusion about what killed employment. I think you are talking about "sordid religion," weren't you?

Yes, the world was here first, and we all came after. So true.
