In the Patios of Echoes

by Debashish Haar — Read all 156 poems by Debashish Haar

Thursday, November 24, 2005

We arrive too late, no matter where we go,
to gather what we leave behind—
in the patios of echoes where our voices float,
in cities and mansions where we live,
in the streets which block our directions.

We often meet in streets and dreams…

Often when we meet in streets
we avoid each other, thinking they are dreams.
When we meet in dreams
we try to touch each other, thinking we are in streets.
Streets where all the houses are empty,
streets where faces walk to search themselves
behind their mental windows.

excellent interplay of dreams and reality ... in dreams, we can experience the terrain behind mental windows where the streets of reality leave us feeling empty ...

it's odd, isn't it, how many opportunities we miss when we meet in streets and dreams to really connect, to believe in how very much is possible... exceptional. Dawn

A very creative writing, Deb! I like the way you have used the street and the dreams in this poem.

Have not seen you around for a long time. Hope everything is okay! Please say hello to Peggy for me.

The hollow sound of an echo that reaches only its sender with nothing new added. To be wrapped in oneself is to be wrapped in ignorance. Well done

I love the way you wove the duality of streets and dreams
into a similie in brilliant taut verses with no words wasted.
Superb message, in an exceptional poem!

I really love this poem, Debs. I wonder why we so often pass one another and neglect to touch or to send a mental message on the wings of a smile. We seem to lock ourselves into our own world to the point that even in our dreams, we neglect to fulfill our desires to touch and communicate. Excellent poem!
Take care,
Sherry
