Ekphrasic poem on The Colossus (Goya)

News: Taliban kill Indian Engineer

In this sky, the Sun rises
behind his torso.
The struggle for power continues:
the colossus faces
an imaginary titan in a war…

Set to face his adversary
with fists and torso ready
to inflict maximum damage.
Prepared to slay an assumed enemy!

The war continues for years,
gradually the colossus wears;
his flesh diffuses in the air,
eyes crush and coalesce in a blind arc,
ears deafened by the cries of those
lynched under his feet.

A slave of self design,
weakness of an empire
that stretches far and wide,
with no boundary…

The colossus, once supreme,
grunts like a rabid dog
to quell his frustration
in vain attempts to locate sore wounds…

What'll you call this anthropoid struggle?
How long can those tiny creatures wait?
When'll they rise?

Powerful and yes "HOW LONG" it is a sad world that surrounds us and at times seems we shall never rise above its great sature. This was a very sad thing that happened to this Indian Engineer and family a loss so cruel. Were but pawns on a marble cold chess board waiting our truns to move.

Thank you for this acknowledgement of this hidious crime.
