Entering the Mirror of Words

An ecphrasic poem on "Intem" (Oscar Garriga)

Wednesday, December 14, 2005

A Shadow of colorless canvas
gathers the form of day.
The day is flaming rage broken,
with shadows staining the canvas.

A speckle of dust settles
on the terrace of memory mansion,
feeling the enormous structure
standing on the syllables of past.

Memory sketches and erases
the face of colorless poetry
etched on the walls of mansion,
carving an instant god—
in gray exclamation!

Mirror of words
creates steam washed reflections
on the bubbles that suck word streams,
and lose the form in reflections.

(I watch me enter the mirror of words)

This is a dynamic write, Debs. You cut a cross-section in an emotion and pull at it from both sides until it laps upon itself and creates a new conceptual image. Awesome job!
Take care,
Sherry

Stunning in both concept and execution, Debs... I would never have thought that dissolution/dissipation could be so concretely and strongly imaged, but you have painted for us a mind-wash that is almost vibrant in its translucent vagueness! PARTICULARLY like (but then, so many lines impress...) "The day is flaming rage broken, with shadows staining the canvas"; can feel the shards of that one! You do ecphrastic so very well... LOL Kate xx

And I envisioned you doing just that as I read this, Debashish. I especially like:
