I Am Reading My Old Diary

by Debashish Haar — Read all 156 poems by Debashish Haar

Thursday, December 22, 2005

I am reading my old diary...
Its pages smell of dust and dried flowers:
covered with letters that move,
the words stretch out their wings and fly,
happy to swap places.

I am reading my old diary...
There is no sky:
wind and clouds make that
perfectly clear.
I am reading my old diary:
it is raining heavily outside.

I am reading my old diary…
I see the setting sun disappearing
inside the burning lip of ocean.
I am listening to waves lapping the shore.
I am reading my old diary:
it smells of dust and dried flowers.
I see a clear sky
boasting of Gemini and Sirius, East of North.

This has very vivid imagery attached to this poem I could feel the silence in this reading. Wonderful work penning this one.

You have chosen perfect images to give concrete shape to the almost inexpressible when it comes to reliving the experiences of moment, Debs. You have contained within this frame the sense of forward and backward movement, so that the walls within moment become fluid and translucent. An extraordinary feat... to expand the now into both past and future simultaneously. Ethereal and yet grounded. Most excellent - perhaps my favourite of yours. TY and may you have peace and much love at this special time. LOL Kate xx

by repeating "I am reading my old diary," it allows for the framework of the poem's deeper purport to built around it's essentia, and preambles the poem's mood quite effectively ...

I believe I've read this one before, Debashish - and it was definitely worth reading again.

Beautiful writing. Very descripting. Love the line "I see the setting sun disappearing
inside the burning lip of ocean" Really paints a word picture.
