Familiarity

by Debashish Haar — Read all 156 poems by Debashish Haar

Thursday, January 19, 2006

The darkness in my room is familiar.
I see my writing table, pen stand,
Cigarette packs and books
where they shouldn’t be
like a normal day traffic in my city.

this hits me RIGHT where I'm at and have been, in the traffic jam of my mind, for weeks now. like a photograph that stops your heart for a moment... Dawn

This is an outstanding capture of the all-too familiar feeling of being "out of sorts" for no apparent reason, other than, perhaps, mood. You pinpoint the intangible qualities in an atmospherically concrete way, but with an allure and fascination that belies "familiarity" well. Love its prosaic feel and inertia - despite the reference to "normal day traffic"... but then, perhaps that DOES sum up city jams well! A touch of brilliance here! TY Kate xx

Ah Debs, the first line grabs your attention, and then you hit us deep, with this excellent closing, excellently written.

SOmetimes familiarity gives you that sense of "this is me" and I can only just go this far!! In a quiet corner with no trafic to disturb the silence deep within!!

Thanks for sharing!!

Time to shake up the familiar, perhaps? Stark and real, Debashish! I feel like opening a window now ;-)!
Well done.

I like this title you chose for this piece. "Familiarity"
We often write of the surroundings exhibited in our daily lives. I like the refrence to traffic in your city and the effect you take in this piece. Would be wonderful to see more added to this familiar concept.
Wonderful job keep it up.
