Spraying Adverbs

by Debashish Haar — Read all 156 poems by Debashish Haar

Thursday, June 15, 2006

It's that time of the day when men perspire
adjectives and talk about their pay-packets,
and women discuss the incentives spraying
adverbs, stroking their cell-phones like babies.
The dogs in the streets are busy licking
used up tissues and napkins, swallowing
the scent of whatever they can’t chew.
Friends exchange sweets and mementoes,
lovers worship lack of separation.
The day ponders its immensity
as if stretching to take the flight of birds.
The insomniacs are stoned to sleep,
children forced to read junked literature.

This speaks of the "illness" of this world that is not in synch. Thank you, Debs. Love and peace,

This captures the lethargy and mood of boredom, frustration and on-going inevitable gloom. Heat and heaviness are pervasive... like a dead-end street on a humid afternoon. Peculiarly Dylan Thomas and Under Milk Wood, but a scenario less like South Wales I can't imagine!? "lovers worship lack of separation. The day ponders its immensity": the micro and macro are in these lines. Excellent work, Debs. PS I stand by my lack of an article before "woman" in That Which Is Forbidden... and I was wonderin about the "the" before "incentives".... must be my thing!! :))) TY LOL Kate xx

Life can be, often, a debilitating experience, filled with persistent itching and applicable oxymorons.

Too many wise fools stroking their own egos!

Excellent!

This is good. Damnit, why didn't I think of "men perspiring adjectives," and "women spraying adverbs," . . . drat! Impressive.
