Lamp of the Body

The lamp of the body is the eye
-- Luke

Wednesday, June 28, 2006

The lamp of the body is the eye,
brine's the struggle that flows.
It's the Sun who leads you
to the tune of its marching song,

off to a paradise that holds.
Halfway there you are tired, so you trip
over a bed whose frame is inlaid
with stars that drill heart holes.

So this is the journey of life. I also enjoyed listening to your recitation, Debashish. A wonderful offering with interesting imagery and provocative concepts. ~~Nordette

Not a comfortable journey, this one, and the road of the pilgrim and martyr are often shared. Given the treacherous paths, the eye needs to be lit and held aloft if that weary traveller has a hope of "arriving". So much said and not said in so few lines, leaving the reader to receive and reflect like light from a prism. Acute and thoughtfully constructed. Now for the recital... TY Kate xx

I like your voice it is strong Poet, This poem is eye opening and so well done for pilgrims of the christian homage. It tells to me of the journey a long one but if the eye is steady and we strive through the trying times it is worth the risks. I like the added recital to your wonderful work.

Quite a piece of wordsmithing here, Debashish, making you point completely.

An interesting construct that quotes Luke the Physician who was, at times, and on many walks, Paul the Apostles closest confidant.

The last two lines smack of the creativity that makes this poet who he is.
