Bangalore: Christmas 2006

by Debashish Haar — Read all 156 poems by Debashish Haar

Saturday, December 23, 2006

An architect surveys a structure
that curves like female anatomy,

and then shares a joke
with an interior designer.
A few meters away
from the cigar of a CEO
a red lingerie rises
like a mighty flame.

A few code coolies
empty their cups of cappuccino
inside an andromeda grotto,
a few others who manage
the documents, talk
about their EMIs,
smoke belching cars,
and ego stroking incentives.

I am alone on this Christmas,
crowded by the plastic people.

Light that shines on the world becomes one with it and is never solitary even when it desires to be. Great lines all. A beautiful holiday and new year to you Treasured Poet.

It is easy to feel alone when we know that we have nothing in common with those who surround us; but being true to ourself is much more important than sharing the company of those you do not admire. Very nice poem, Debs.
Take care,
Sherry

Alone in a city of I don't know exactly just how many thousands of people, Debs. You have captured the impossible inconguities so very well and mentally I have anthropomorphised the buildings and other images such that the whole scenario has become like a cartoon in my head... perhaps that is something that you are trying to actually conjure here. It makes me wonder what true obscenity is... massive billboards of adverts for milk formula in the middle of Ethiopian wastelands, perhaps. Ahhh.... but five minutes back to reality with AD is as a celestial choir above those Bethlehem hills, no?? :)) My love and Greetings to you across the miles this Christmastime, my Friend. K xx

Corporate USA is same as in Bangalore, All Plastic and fake Materialistic and plastic people. In the States, they are the ones trying to ban the Christmas Holiday change the age-old meaning to "Holiday Greeting Day"
To me this is a shame. I love the lines here of the offices you I assume have partaken occupation in for one would really not be so keen the surroundings as this raw piece is to me. Most Corporate offices use material and emotional vices, lust, money, power. Root evils in this world. The Will of Peace and Goodwill finds loose grounds to stand in the media and Corporate world.
Blessings for a beautiful Christmas and a Much Blessed New Year 2007 for you Debashish!.

Far too many plastic people milling all about these days, Debashish, and I hope you can have a joyous Christmas despite them.
