She prepares a bowl of metaphors,
spreads butter on each image.
At times he starves
on tasteless soup and cabbage.
She is the high priestess of art.

She dyes her fiberglass hair
with wood polish and rum;
he is the only life: a malleable face,
a potbelly and a cheerleader;
a connoisseur in the night.

Your thoughts here are captivating. Even after reading your comment I found this one captivating.

My intention is somewhat like this: to live, a man (or a woman) assumes different forms. To eat he takes a form, to talk he takes another form, and even while sleeping he takes so many different forms. I attended an art exhibition in my city (which is known more for IT buzz) and was impressed by a few sculptures. "Lovers" is an offshoot of one such sculpture.

Thanks for such an insightful comment, Kate!

Although these two seem rather different and a striking match (so to speak!), actually, reading it and visualising the scenes of their cohabitation, their chosen emphases seem delightfully complementary. I am taking as a given that they are both fundamentally artists and at one in terms of their centring around their relative creative processes. Don't know why I should think that, but I do. Interesting fare you have selected to detail this relationship with, Debs. I imagine it keeps their inspirational juices flowing! Thanks, too, for critique... I will look again at how the poem is assembled. Bless you, Kate xx

Your imagery becomes an enigma the longer you stare at it. Like turning over a rock and finding a puce colored bug dressed in silk pontificating Ram Dass.
