Escapism

by Debashish Haar — Read all 156 poems by Debashish Haar

Friday, February 2, 2007

A man searches
for emotional space, escapes
in the day, returns
in the evening, and wakes up

crowded in the night

inside a room that leads
to abandoned rooms,
where his heart beats,
mind returns every night,

where windows open and close
into interiors that change
like the faces in some crowd.

... and likewise, woman. Fascinating how, in the search for both space and discovery, we leaf through filing cabinets of the internal and external landscapes, as if in search of something lost or misplaced. Whatever we are searching for, it seems we know and understand that we have met it before somewhere... Always different, and yet always the same. Seems very cubist to me - or, at least, geometric. There is always a design and purpose behind our randomness, and our conscious and subconscious always trys to seek it out. Has obviously provoked deep thought in me at least! Tight and no words wasted. Windows opened here, thank you. Kate xx

wonderful write you've taken the reader on a journey called life through one's thoughts...enjoyed this, we've got to escape every now and then if only in our minds!

Fantastic journey called life, and its all wrapped up in so few words on how we deal with the mayhem, the want or desires, the wishes and would-if's, etc...We do need this "Escapism" to sort...
Enjoyed this fully!
Love and peace~

Dear Debs,

The darkness of our fears will not subside if we try to "escape" from them ... they must be faced if we are to live truly free. We cannot make something go away simply by ignoring it.

Love & Light always and in all ways,

Beguiling like Kafka as he wanders through love trying to figure it all out. Great poem Sir.

Escapism... I don't know, dear Debs. Mental spaces where we take a rest from the overcrowded passages we thread, and where we re-charge our energies, yes. We need them, so we can "come back"... whole, within our multi-faceted beings. Loved this perspective.
Love,

This feels to me like the conciousness and unconciousness of a human mind.Showing us how, why, where and when there is a criss cross of running between our reality and dreamworld, making us who we are.
Beautiful write!

Escapism is a perfect title for this some do it by travel, some by habit some by wanting different realities. Your subject in this poem the man seems to deal with a general life as anyone but finds a secret place within while the night comes and shadows out reality itself. In search of escaping.... If only this could be so simple I would try Escapism also. So much evolves in his world here. A Thought provoking piece. Once more you challenge your readers to imagine, feel, and then express how they felt after reading...Well done Debashish.

Light & peace,
Joselyn

The very picture of our subconscious struggle. Great!

A pathos of passionless stasis ...

became (to me) a picture of a man/woman, looking down at a merry-go-round from a tower, and marveling as it became an optical toy in a tube producing symmetrical patterns as the bits of his/her staid life were reflected in mirrors.

A simple multi-layered picture ...
