A huge emptiness gobbles up

everything, but inside

a crowd moves on, confused

about the flow of the crowd,

and breathes for the huge muteness.

Jaswant’s Jinnah praise,

front page item, pushed back,

earns an expulsion and ban.

Advani’s time up, says RSS chief;

NSC alarm on FDI, no tiddlywinks!

High fever, sore throat? No need

For H1N1 testing say the guidelines.

All anthropomorphic faces

are either masked, bearded, or under

dark glasses – nicely covered.

No big deal, I’m a nobody says SRK

on the airport detention drama.

City elites cover page 3,

common man is taunted

like narrow orphaned streets

where the workers live.

War on terror is necessary says Obama.

US couple killed by a dozen dogs.

Four new operators in 3G auction,

stick to quality stocks, beat volatility,

Reader’s Digest to file for bankruptcy;

SmithKline and Glenmark face-off

over malaria drug.

A morning newspaper,

a half peeled orange,

a pack of modifiers,

a lighter.

fantastic capture of the melange that has become modern journalism, where broadsheets have been dubbed down, rubbed down to tabloid with column-inches that match in both voice and substance. Over here, newspaper readership is dwindling to an all-time low as the metro freebies take-over... ensuring one common world-view. I love both the quirkiness of your detail and the subtle inferences that compete for our souls. There's so much in these lines:

City elites cover page 3,
common man is taunted
like narrow orphaned streets
where the workers live.
