I wrote early this morning, awaking to this verse and by striving to give meaning to it, I came up with the following. It has a bit of history in it and it is a love story

I  REMEMBER  YESTER YEAR

OH! I remember yester year
With your charms you could me lure
You made me feel so very light
To be with you was my delight

On a date you were not late
We knew then nothing of hate
Carefully I dressed to look my best
For it was you I wished to impress

It was such a long time ago
To turn back now should I be blessed
To walk with you with joy again
Could only happen now and then

The war came and took you away
To far off places, I could not go
I dream of you both night and day
I prayed the Lord that you would know

That I'd be true to you till death
Then that dreaded telegram
Missing in action rang a bell
Shot down over Africa it said

My dear one how could this be
That never would you return to me
My heart broke in many peices
To know that you I would not see

Until this day I have not forgotten
As you walked me to the door
The good night kiss that was so sweet
That sent chills up and down my spine

It makes me chill to think of it
To live in the past we must not do
I lift you up to Father God
There is still much living to do

Letting go is the hardest part.
Death is the greatest journey we take, but it shouldn't be so soon.

A lovely tribute to your loved one.

Though we give the past to God and press on, the memories are a
part of us. How often a scene, a scent, a thought brings them to the fore.
A lovely, poignant poem.

Marguerite,

What tender beauty and purity you portray here, of yourself and your young man. Sadly, war robs not only the innocence of life, but life itself.

Outstanding poetic write!
