Nothing educates a child about life and dead than no-moving turtles, no swiming goldfishes or little birds lying on the backyard after knocking itself all the way down by crashing on the window.
Daddy is a life's practical philosopher when he says "things go down the drain"
...he means it.
I want to learn to swim
like my goldfish does,
belly-up, without sinking
and no water up my nose.
I want to learn to swim
like my goldfish does,
but Daddy say's it's dead
and down the drain it goes.
I want to learn to swim
but not like a goldfish do,
no way they can make me
to dive inside that flush!

Cut slices of carrots, put your hand in the goldfish bowl and eat a wiggling carrot, "ooo I facey fish, yummy goldfish looks rather nice" kids kinda find it funny, if not a tad warped. after the screams of NOOOOO...
Son,first goldfish dead it was on his birthday
He cried all day he was turning eight years old
He was very sad by this tragedy!
Excellent poetic thoughts!!

Learn to float. I can float for h o u r s--have even been known to fall asleep. :) 'Course, the sunburn on me belly isn't worth it...but o, what a way to relax! Enjoyed this one, and I don't want to dive into that flush, either. LOL
Georg,
Delightful poem! I too, have flushed the tiny little goldfish down the drain and watched the horror of a little face and the sadness in their eyes. Excellent write, my friend.
Ah, too cute! My granddaughter Jozie who is four is spending the weekend with us, she just got two little gold fish last night, I've not checked on them this morning, hope they are not belly up! Loved this write, so true! I've flushed a many of them in my time, and answered many questions about the bird that flew into the window, or the empty turtle shell...great write!
Blessings,

Really cute, Georg! Litte bit of backyard philosophy, here, the way life does send little kid's dreams right down the ole drain. Poor fishy! Love it!
