Sunny Mallorca, like any other medal, has also two sides, a dark one.
Being the last of what I wrote in force, I wish to share with you the mystisism and undercurrents which even today, 2007, cannot we dismiss as superstion when people witnessed events that they didn't have a most remote idea or knew beforehand.
NA COCA's Serpent
Not even going to Mallorca will be
a escape from the curse of the gods
for all the Slaves of the Shadows in
their Pilgrimage to worship the Sun.
They journey will be almost welcomed
by the Dragon of NA COCA down below,
in the sewers labyrinth, always waiting,
a serpent that encounter you wish not.
As the story goes, the monster was slain
by Alcudia's Governor Bartomew Coch,
a Captain going to the sewers to challenge
holding in his hands a crucifix and a sword.
If the beast was killed, I will certainly ask,
"why people still vanishes like a ghost?
it is only a myth for the gullible ones
or the Captain didn't kill the beast after all?"
NA JOANA's Hunchbacks
To the hills of Mallorca I will advice,
on the witches hours, please!, not to go!
they are the ones that give the humps
of the hunchbacks to unsuspecting you.
As the story goes, living in a cave
a witch by the name of NA JOANA was,
she tricks a mother to pay for the removal
of the hump from the back of her son.
The boy should dance with the witches and sing,
so they could curse the object of his affliction
which was heavily riding on his back;
but he didn't sung a tune, just dissention.
Oh! they removed anothers hump with magic,
then NA JOANA messed things a little too,
because the removed hump from another boy,
she gave to the one that couldn't sing, to wear two.
CONDE MAL's Ghost
In Mallorcas's For miguera was the castle of
Ramón Safortesa, CONDE MAL, (bad Count)
he was cruel, levying people to poverty and
killing anyone holding sovereigns of gold.
The people of Formiguera, tired of tirany
went like a roaring mob and did revolt,
killing the CONDE MAL with mighty fire
as they burned his castle to the gorund.
Peace descended on the Ratx Valley after it,
no more killings in revenge from the Count;
his family rebuild his castle again once more
but totally destroyed by local feelings on 1922.
At arrival, the Devil didn't wanted him in Hell,
nor by His side was he wanted by Almighty God,
this days he goes as the malign Ghost of Galatzo,
he can't go nowhere, but on an eternal haunt.
CHOPIN's Nocturnes
But go to Valdemosa, where FRÉDÉRIC CHOPIN
had a piano and he was to compose
melodies for George Sand, a woman writer,
that left without showing him what she wrote.
To Porto Polensa, Torres by the beach
certainly if you have time you must go,
and see the sundown standing among the trees
high over the white rock of Can Picafort.
Go to Inca on Thursday and you will find
bric-a-bracs, bargains, souvenirs, the lot,
eat Calamari Romana by the Church's Plaza,
and from fabric's oulets, the most exquisite shoes.
In the Cathedral of the City of Las Palmas,
you can go wash from the soul the evil gods,
then you will be able to worship the sun without
NA COCA, NA JOANA, or the CONDE MAL's ghost.
