If each of us do what we can for our Vets, it's better than nothing...

Citizens! Why do we sit by and wait for governnment to take care of us? True we people deserve the best life has to offer, but government is not a kind and loving father-- it is an institution which has no face, but a mouth-- spewing out words, and consuming voraciously--devouring all for meaningless things, and our choices for election are no better. The more I hear, the more I picture spending-spending-spending, and TAXES... The answer lies in banding together as people, and loving and caring for our neighbors. We have arms. We have eyes, and we have hearts. Reach out and do something today! --Charlie

Georg...you bring the sorrow of the aftermath of war...known so well to the veterans of this world, it is the sad reality that governments dispose of them as soon as they have their worth...

Your statistics ... what a tragedy that our veterans are treated so badly. These veterans have given so much in the nameof freedom, but are discarded like yesterday's smelly fish. I think this should be sent to the large newpapers as an editorial comment for many, many more to reach and perhaps have some impact on the conscience of Congress.

This country is not helping! ONLY hurting!
Thank you for sharing all this sad truth Georg!!! this makes my skin crawl! It scares me what this Country is turning into! and what OUR YOUNG will have to face and US as we AGE!
This poem speaks it cleary, I spoke of the same tragedies my friend, in my Congress Poem, This Country is hurtin' and not being fair!
SHAME ON AMERICA and it's care of others and not our OWN!

I'm so deeply saddened by this poem and hope something can be done for those veterans. We see them here on television without arms and legs, some blind, and they are so young...and hopeless.

The government never cared, better to stay in the military for life as getting out early can for the most part lead to life on the streets...I wish I stayed in for a career, but being young and foolish, well you know the answer to that...I was Navy, but still I say to you, "SEMPER FI"...Ed

This reminds of the recent poem posted by our brother ED. Kostro in which he highlighted the plight of the veterans who sometimes have no option but to take their lives. Read War Demons by ED. Kostro and yiu will have your eyes wide open to a reality that has never been exposed before. And with this posting I think something must be done soon to save the American veterans from horror and despair. thanks dear George, as usual your works go into the depths of the inner soul.

Powerfully written Georg and with this you have spoken much truth. A government that uses, abuses and disgards with little or no mercy, yet a debt is owed to each and every one who has served. At the end of WWI Veterans who served well were given empty promises and almost caused a riot in Washington, yet the same attitude continues through today and sadly our bravest and boldest are still being shoved aside and forgotten. Sure would not take much to care for all of them in a dignified manner now would it?

Many with Mental & Physical Health at corners holding up
Cardboard with the words Veteran
Will work for food while guarding a grocery cart
That contains their entire life belongings
Which is home?

Yes I agree with Vicki, they haven't taken care of the poor veterans from Vietnam yet, and now we have another whole new regiment to take care of, indeed let the Afgans and Iraquis do their own dirty work, we need to help those at home first, before we send any more into the world to get hurt. This is a very powerful and well thought out poem, it should fly from the top of the White House, maybe the next set will get the message. This is a good shot across the bow, for the next ship coming in, as a warning. Bless You Georg!

AMEN!! There is a twelve month waiting list now at the VA hospitals, even for veterans who have serious health problems or are diagnosed as suicidal by a private Dr. SHAME ON AMERICA
