The summers heat is now dimmed by autumns arrival
The leaves are now the only colored sparks remaining
Each day grows shorter and darker and colder
As winter soon will come treading with frosty feet
The mornings sparkle with frozen dew
Fastened hard to the cars windshields
The breaths of the morning travelers
Like white clouds around cold-pinked cheeks
The children wait noisily on city curbs
For the ride to the neighborhood schools
As moms finally sit sipping coffee
In houses, deserted by the juvenile mob
Soon comes the season of cold, white, winter
bringing with, a new set of traditions and challenge
the hats and boots, coats and mittens wait,
ready for their time and place.
The houses are warmed now from the inside
As winter breezes steal around corners with a whistle
Soon the cold frozen flakes will begin to fall
And the noises of the world will be softened
Then all will be decorated like a Christmas card
As the holidays approach with their color and sound
And the bells will be ringing at store doorways
Pleading for money to feed the poor and lost
And yet today fall still has its way
As leaves rustle underfoot with each step took
In stores the caramel apples are displayed like candy
And pumpkin pies are nestled in deli cases
Enjoy the season, it is quite brief
winters harshness will come soon enough
Enjoy the colors, smells, tastes, and textures
Each day a gift, and respite from winters icy touch
When we lived in the Northwoods of Wisconsin, I savored each autumn day. The beauty in the fiery leaves! So gorgeous! You have captured this season so well.
Be safe,
Karen
