Parental failure

I wonder how the TV people smile
so much and life is so easy, because,
I find life full of uncertainty, which makes me frightened,
not smiley, nor  does it make me feel safe, sane or easy.
Instead,
I feel uneasy, a bit crazy, a lot depressed,
maybe a bit, no a lot, uncertain about
the possibility of a future
that is stable, and unfettered with trouble.
Maybe being the mom to six is why.
One had surgery yesterday, and can no longer have kids,
Thankfully she had one that is a gem.
Two are mentally ill, one with paranoia, the other
in a destructive divorce with abuse issues,
alcohol addiction, lies, and child custody crap.
Another has failed to launch and yet another
is punched by the one who says he loves her. Yet
she stays with him, defending him!
The oldest has the least trouble, he is severely autistic
How as a parent can I count my successes?
I tried my best and failed, miserably!
I am sad, I am not smiling, but I am hoping
that tomorrow will be a better day!

I'm so sorry to learn about what's happening in your life. I hope it will turn out for the better. I know, being a mother, we always love and support our children no matter what. There is no failure on your part, because mothers aren't simply born to know everything. We learn a little more about motherhood everyday, and solve problems that are within our best abilities for our children. Your best bet may be to encourage your children to take up a kind of hobby that they like, learn an art or simply do something that they have interest in doing so they can develop their new individuality. I will be praying for you.

Love and peace,
Sandie

It is so sad that you have given birth to such trouble and now feel obligated to try to fix everything that is happening. All you can do is to continue to write and move on, hopefully that most of the problems will work themselves out. I know a woman who has marketed her autistic son with his ability to create very complex and beautiful collage art. His name is Grant Manier and you can find him on the Internet. He recently won an art contest in Washington DC and had his art displayed in the Capitol.

There are so many in this club- losing themselves trying to help others- family or friends.
Al-Anon is the best thing I know to create a program of self care.
It is this self we need to be of any help at all, and we don't take care of it- thinking it is not us who is important or deserve help.
Whatever makes you smile- you should have.
Best wishes,
John

Dear Sandy, Great poetic expression! If we are looking for answers to life we must continually be looking up. I recall many a sermon in my home town church being concluded with the statement, "It's a mystery of faith." So what does that mean? It means to me that we must look beyond our seemingly failures and see success within. It's the mentally ill child who displays the most love that's a mystery. It's the kid who is addicted to drugs who one day in the future hears the prayers of his family and turns his life around and helps other addicts do the same. I have seen crack addicts turn to Jesus and never look back. Truth is stranger than fiction in the spiritual world. It's a world that we probably will never fully understand. But God NEVER ask us to have logic and understand His Word. He ask that we have faith of a mustard seed and love Him with all of our mind, all of our heart and all of our soul. That's IS a mystery to me. But it's the only thing that works. Believe me, I know because I was blind and now I can see.

Amen and have a Very Merry Christmas!

John Michael
