I have a friend, alright no comments from the peanut gallery
I Do
have a friend, this week anyway
she lives across the way, one of the first folk I met
when touring the current compound
I’m forty-two and she’s seventy-two
my kids get a kick out of that
me
I just see
one of the greatest things to ever happen in my life
lately when I call her, right when she knows it’s me
she says
“Bless your heart.”
in a kinda sweet sigh sorta way
who could not love that
besides the fact that she’s always, good for a glass or two or three of wine
pick a color any color, I want and or need
the “Bless your heart”
is the kicker
wished all my friends blessed my heart
then maybe it’d get a little sweeter
instead it just gets meaner
cept when it comes to my buddy
now there are two sides to every story
and friendship is no different
I bless her heart too
I do
I may be full of doom and gloom
but I can tell you this
I’m a great diversion
I laugh too loud, and make her little dog bark
once the little nipper took a nip of my ankle
when I was trying to dance with her mama
tinker you’re a stinker
ha
we do have some times
but best of all, she loves me for who I am
she just thinks I’m grand
so
here’s to you missy
