zoo
animals in cages
life’s a zoo
and thus
we venture forth
and all is good and all is well
and I am happy because it seems
we are amongst many
card carrying zoo members
claiming their 10 percent discount
and this is good that we are here
and Lemur Village is cool
because they sell beer
ring tail lemurs go well with
MGD
and then we are off
off to look at monkeys with red butts
and strange alien faces
tripping giggling into
Gorilla Country

Don’t Disturb the Gorillas
and
all is quiet in this country
I am amazed at their feet
how they are so much like mine
and they seem
so
disgusted with us
chewing on weeds and trees and lettuces
Their picking and eating of noses
and then
it happened
this obviously male creature
thing
looks
me
right in the eye
opens his fangy mouth
sticks out his oh so human tongue
and wiggles it
in what can only be described
as
obscene
I duck this way and that
and
he follows me
mocking me
with primate eyes
and vulgar tongue
and I
feel
molested
and he knows it
and then
I
understand how he feels
day in day out
throngs
of googlers
staring at his feet
laughing at his children
sticking out their tongues
and
as soon as I get it
message sent, message received
he stops
puts back on his
bored face
his fishbowl why me lord
gorilla face
and
we move on
to
zebra land
a little more
respectful
of
freedom
