The latest series of Apprentice (the UK version presided over by Alan Sugar, a billionaire who does not have a combover, continued this week... The series revealed the extent to which talking bollocks has replaced business acumen in the corporate environment.
Every box, no matter
how tall or deep or wide,
must be optimised and realised
and ultimately thought outside.
Never falter or digress
sieze each opportunity to impress.
Back stabbing, glory grabbing
client focused team players,
target driven dragon slayers,
goal oriented and intent
on giving one hunded and ten percent.
Going forward from the get go,
running ideas up the flagpole
Highly focused meritocrats,
capable of wearing many hats,
each pursues a relentless quest:
their grail? the bitch goddess success.

As you know, my book contains numerous references to rape. You may NOT know that I was actually envisioning corporate politics when I wrote those passages, and that all rape references symbolize the way people interact with each other in a Fortune 100 company. You also might not know that I had a specific, toxic company in mind (which shall remain nameless), or that one of my former co-workers at that company was on The Apprentice during its second season.
I'm not much of a fan of that show. I lived it for 14 years, and left.
