Just remembering some old fossils I picked up in Texas
STONES
What stories do you tell that limestone has forever held entrapped?
You look at me through empty eyes a million years ago
And weep today.
I stroke the fossil led fusion of your fur
And wonder of your story.
I never quite will understand the things I’ve come to know
Though I use them well and understand the cast:
And you died eons long ago
Not planning for a past
In a world and wanting I will never know.
You swam in stream and valley in a place that I have trod
Before I found you many years beneath the desert sands.
I wonder, if you wondered then if anyone would care
About you.
Did you really think a Gore-tex boot would stumble on your skull?
In a place where people train to reach the stars.
Your children lost the battle and finding you’s a skill.
We bipeds are tomorrow and the past.
We never have forgotten what the future gave this place
And hold you in our hands to understand
The common past and common future we will undertake
While holding stone cold memory in hand.
If we are left tomorrow in a world lost yesterday
And all we have for answers are the bones
Of Ancestors forgotten, the story still is told
In the stones.
This book explores how U.S. presidents Dwight D. Eisenhower and John F. Kennedy failed to stand up to Soviet aggression during the early Cold War—despite America's overwhelming nuclear advantage.
History carved in stone...there is a magic in not really knowing it all!!
