Poem Artwork

Running through the corridor
Hands clawing for freedom
Screaming for forgiveness
Begging for release
The surface ripples above unseen fingertips
Stumbling over vines engulfing the floor
Scraping bare flesh
Winding fibrous threads around weary limbs
Struggling to escape
Fighting for air
Wrapped in a cocoon of helpless desperation
Needing redemption
Praying for salvation
Dragged into a blinding darkness
Eyes screaming for sight
A broken heart longing for peace
Left with naught but hands breaking through the surface
Ripping out what remains of humanity
A whisper silences the screams
Redemption and salvation demand a costly toll
Penances shall be paid by the immortal soul

Welcome to eternity

Excellent choice of verbs - begging, stumbling, scraping, struggling, ripping out...give this poem real momentum.

Kimberly,

Love it. Sort of Stephen King-ish. I found your use of words very exquisite and well chosen. I sure hope the end is nowhere like your description. Peace, Love and Blessings, Paul.

Shades of Dante. I love it, Kimberly. Love the pace, the energy,
the writing, and of course the concept.

Visions of A Skylark Dressed in Black by Aberjhani

“The woman or man who is a poet, or fiction writer, or playwright, or all of these, is engaged constantly in a jazz ballet of vocabularies, passions, genders, histories, perspectives, death, love, and life. The music of revelation announces itself to
