It's summer. A new day has dawned; one more scorching day with no relief in sight.
Red dawn. Bloody dawn.
The sun is rising,
a great red disk
like the swollen eye
of a drunken man
staring down at me,
at this parched world.
As I step outside
a hot wind,
like an invisible hand,
chases bits of paper
on the hot asphalt
like tumbling weeds
in the desert.
People walk, bent
under the weight
of a relentless heat
weariness in their eyes,
quiet desperation,
hopeless resignation.
Yet another day
in the city,
that never sleeps.
Now I know why.
It's too hot!
