I was told often in life that “Big boys don’t cry.” I learned how to Hold my emotions Tightly inside me, Like so many clothes in An overworked suitcase.
No one told me, though, That so many years of Holding it in and Being a man Would turn my hurt Into rage.
The water of my tears Simmers in my heart, Slowly changing to Acidic nitro-glycerin; It transforms my soul Into a bomb Whose fuse is the sum Of all the moments My hopes were dashed and Dreams discarded.
The fuse will someday reach The powder keg, Full to the brim with Every time I wanted to cry, But wasn’t allowed to.
very powerful-i can see the little guy as so very many there are being told"Big boyss don't cry" i can tell you though, the moment i saw my dad as "human" was the first time i saw him cry. love the poem
Robert, you've touched me with this one. It is always better to vent than to leave things bottled up inside of us. That's how explosions occur. But, on the other hand, one should not react too impulsively. Impulsive behavior leads to harsh consequences.
I love a man who cries. I love a man who expresses their emotions. This one has so much truth and wisdom...yes. Powerful writing! Please keep writing and healing.
Well, yeah, big boys cry, but I am not of the school of thought that crying makes you more sensitive to anything, it is just a reaction which is unavoidable at times. Like every time I have to watch Dr. Phil. LOL
It is painful how some were raised in the "old" days when you and I were raised...have someone kick you in the errogenous zone and trust me, YOU WILL CRY & while your at it you can just cry out all the other stuff in your system... your manhood survives, at least in your mind, i think...ed
