I thought of you today
During my daily climb up
Mount Paperwork.
Bureaucracy’s heavens
Spilled a blizzard of
Unresolved queries,
Causing an avalanche
That threatened my sanity.

I thought of you today
While in tedium’s fog,
Unable to see past
Dates and deadlines,
Unwilling to slide
Into the valley of inefficiency.

I thought of you today
From the summit of
My inbox.
I sent up a flare
With my cell phone:

“I love you.”

I thought of you today
As I slowly descended
Through the snows of
Reports and memos,
Ignoring the sting of
Mental frostbite,
Until finally rescued by
Quitting time.

I thought of you tonight
With the memory of
Your spoken thought:
I cost you five points
Off your cell phone.

I thought of you tonight
From the bird’s eye view
Of my mind
During my reflection of
The price of love.
