My wife and I are happy today, happy but tired. We visited with our Son, daughter-in-law and granddaughter yesterday. That little girl is sweet but boy does she have energy. This poem was inspired by a glimpse of childhood.
The Responsible Adult
As a child I would not always show a sense of responsibility.
In the course of my daily play I did not always give one cause for reliability.
Sometimes I proved myself to be an example of untrustworthiness
And when told by Dad to do my chores I did not pursue with steadfastness.
Rather, I would not think twice about taking a shortcut.
I didn’t dot myI’s or cross my T’s, in fact I usually did anything but.
As I grew older and realized the responsibilities of life I quickly learned
That a job once begun must be done or my wages were not earned.
This is the lesson I worked to teach my son as he grew,
If I taught him nothing else, it’s a lesson he’ll be glad he knew.
We all have wonderful childhood memories to hold
But it’s sad, “We grow too late smart and too soon old.
