The winter owl banked just in time to pass
And save herself from breaking window glass.

INBETWEEN
Through rectangles of warm russet, panes and glaze Above rich filament of Persian fibred softness Aligned by time worn leather backed tomes While feeling the warmth of charred log’s ember Heat licked by yellow-red flame Far and beyond my window’s haze Crisp burnished leaves lie in lifeless piles As Autumn’s finale bows to Nandina’s lacy verdure In ornamented anticipation of holiday dress Burgeoning with red berried clusters Hint of seasonal entrance and crimson pomp Punctuated by through the glass sounds of children’s glee Pigskin dreams and Christmas fantasies And mine… A rush of blazing memories and dreams A New Moon Bare branches that once bore green…the flourish Soon to waft in coiling smoke and ash Or crumble…in nourishing bits not to be forgotten Nature’s mulch…personal kindling Entwined in her cycle of solstice … Sweet unrivaled rebirth A metamorphosis of the soul Igniting Winter’s sunny chill Blue skies rushing the season While scent of clove-pierced orange and evergreen Waft to want of fresh mowed grass And promise of Spring.
Lovely image! For some reason when it first filled my eyes, I was reminded me of The Legend Of Sleepy Hollow.
Taylor ... in your poetry I see, in you, the ability to look at your environment and paint back a soothingly tactile, and emotionally salubrious image, with your diction, and descriptions, all of which integrate smoothly into the sensibilities of the reader.
You create delicious ambiance, and with this velvety atmosphere, I also see you lacing your hopes and dreams throughout whatever you are inclined to write. You are one of the Dens true romantics.
Taylor, I am especially touched by this piece. Your imagery and metaphor are simply 'delicious' (as a friend once expressed to me).. your paint pictures with them that are breathtaking. The use of seasons to depict the evolving of life, death, and hope and faith is just exceptional! Well done!
hugs, Myrna
Beautiful write...full of sensual sensations that create a wondeful place before the readers very eyes and paints it within their minds. Great write...
Blessings and Merry Christmas
So sweetly sensual, Taylor... I can feel the rosy warmth of a winter room, lit only by the leaping flames in the hearth, their reflections burning my cheeks... and look beyond the clementine segments and smell the spring in the bubbling sap of spitting logs... ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh..... Reminds me so much of Snow by Louis Macneice in its associations. Another skilfully crafted piece from you - but you know of no other! Your work is ALWAYS A++. Happy Christmas to you and your darlin athletes!! :)) LOL K xx
This is one of those 'rare' pieces of writing that caresses the soul, Taylor. Your imagery is phenominal, you take the reader on a journey into the seasons so effortlessly. I have always loved winter, the smells, the first snowfall and the smell of burning wood mixed with the scent of evergreen. And then spring renews my hope, tranforms my thinking. This has to be one of the best poems I've read on the seasons in a long time. You are truly a gifted wordsmith, dear friend. Merry Christmas Taylor. Love, Katherine
I absolutely ADORE your subtle and not-so-subtle characterizations, use of imagery alluding to all things pertinent in growth and death and, in continued hope -- the possibility for a re-birth. I can actually 'feel' and 'smell' the leather bookbindings.
I think that so many times we get 'trapped' in our own world and we see only the dying frail aspects of the seasons (both human and otherwise [relationships, nature, thought, hope -- and lack thereof]) - yet you are able to capture as well the beauty that is there, even if not always evident to those who fail to stop and take the time to revere it... you show us the whisper of a hint of some light at the end of the proverbial tunnel; no matter how faint that light of seemingly far-off Spring may be - you make us KNOW that it IS there. -- Jeff

Taylor, another beauitful write. I love your colorful descriptives. You touch all the senses with your words. And you truly portray the "inbetween" of the seasons, the longing and the beauty of that transition. Thank you for the preview, driven by "concidence".
Always...Kale

OH gosh Taylor, you have taken us to a place of wonder, emotion and reminiscence of life's sights sounds and smells -a sweet savor awakend in my memory as I read this. As the seasons change and the cold winds blow, I find such peace and comfort in your words:
"A rush of blazing memories and dreams." I have been hoping for another Taylor Ryan gem for Christmas and I was not disappointed!
Christmas huggs and wishes for a safe, prosperous and beautiful New Year.

Robin Ouzman Hislop's poetry is certainly in dialogue with some of the key architects of the 'poetics of indeterminacy' – both the Modernist strands represented by the likes of Beckett and Stein, and the postmodernist strands represented, initially,
Allen
