I'm not down and out, ... just wrote that way.

Poem Artwork

Bottomed Out

Knocked down, dragged,
Bottomed out.
Springs are saggin',
Butts a draggin',
Bank account's all tapped out.
Lifes a laggin’,
Times a saggin’,
Slithering down the shelf.
Happiness is fadin’,
Like the jadin’,
Of a new-found wealth.
From the viewin’,
And maintainin’,
The unfound self.
Sneaks up on ya,
Like a stealth, ..
The bottom shelf.

No way else to go but up.

Ok, Ronald, you already know I'm gonna love the perfectly done rhythm and rhyme.. and it's flawless! But it takes a theme to make that poetic cleverness bounce: you've got it! Yes, I read your preface but that didn't stop the poem from being universally recognized. Haven't we all been there? I think the lively, staccato 'beat' kept the theme from bogging down. You have a great 'ear' for rhyme. katy xox.

A very clever write here, Ronald, that interweaves the expression of despondancy in a "plodding" (with the use of the heavy glottal stop "in"-endings) style, but with the additional "wink" of the upbeat optimism at the end! Reminds me of Forrest Gump! So true that the only way from here on it is up! Good write, much enjoyed. Thank you for your helpful comment on "Funny Bones" - I do believe you are right as I do find it difficult not to overcomplicate even simple ideas! Thank you. Kate

This is cooool, flows well, has a country feel to it, and I can appreciate the feelings, I think we all have felt this way before- I like also how it ends on a positive note.

Hey Ron, did you mean to say "no way else to go?"
This was vividly expressed, thanks for sharing.
