After Microsoft and a local shop failed to fix my hopped-up XP Media Edition eMachine, I resorted to a registry cleaner (not recommended) that seemed to do the job. And then, I downloaded a firmware upgrade for my Airport Extreme wireless router, and it knocked out my adapter (receiver) on the eMachine. Dragon NaturallySpeaking is on that machine--where I do my writing in a quiet setting. Weekends are my only time to write, but I've been spending the last few with outsource Indians without a clue. Top it off, a Comcast connection problem has affected my phone line. I can't leave technology behind and go back to handwriting, so bear with me if I'm late, don't read your work, don't comment, or don't write up to my expectations or normal output. An Intel iMac with VM Fusion, Leopard, Vista, and Dragon NS 10.0 will probably do the trick, but will have to keep this trusty old eMac to run Helix, Netscape Composer, PhotoShop 2.5, and McDraw Pro that does my database and graphics magic daily in Mac OS 9.
Don't cry for me, Author's Den. I can afford to fix this. I'm just trying to hold up tech companies to their promises.
Tardy Poem
I admit this poem is late.
Certainly not my style.
But fighting tech has been my fate,
putting me off by the mile.
The struggle has been mighty,
And in my pocket deep.
At times so frustrating,
A weaker me would weep.
Still, I soldier on,
unwilling to embrace defeat.
While thoughts of a new computer,
creep onto my street.

ahaa, that's the Ron I've come to expect -- a fighter for principles -- and proud I am of you too, for the noble stance -- make Microsoft dance to their own faulty Boolean Algebra and erroneous algorithms --- short their circuits with mineral water -- and then, pull their fuses! -- may the serene hum of hardware perfectly in tune with credible software make music in your ears --JMW
Well, I dare say I have been there many times before and usually end up just purchasing another computer. However I have learned my lessons the hard way and so, now I always have two or three computers at any given time all mirror images of each other....
