 Moonlit Night

Moonlit night, so often I have pined.

Moonlit night, where I, so easily find,

Your love light shines, oh so kind,

Moonlit night.

When the nighthawk flies and we hear its call,

The Moonlit night gives up its all.

Together, we watch and wish as stars fall,

Moonlit night.

We watch your reflection off the waves,

As they gently gurgle against the shore.

Moonlit night, leave us nevermore.

Moonlit night.

Release your secrets ever more,

Your chain of love that's gone before,

When ancients worshiped your lore,

Moonlit night.

So when our days grow cold,

We will remember moonlit nights of old,

Forever will our story be told.

Moonlit night.

I really like this poem. The repetitive nature of Moonlit Night goes nice with the rhyme. Really helps the poem flow quite nicely. Plus any poem about the moon usually sound so nice.

where ever we are, some thoughts can be the same, like you always say I too felt I was there feeling exactly how you felt on that moonlit night
Sometimes I wonder how when an author turns into a poet!!, He must get on to a different level. Like two sides of the same coin??

Not bad, you're certainly a reliable poet. April-May is the best time for moonlit nights here in the southern country and this year, so different than the last few it's been unusually cool! And we finally had some rain, so maybe no heat wave this June but I hope to be out of here this summer....later, mike

Hi Ron,
Had few problems of my own lately, anyway, no use me moaning about them, it don’t make them better.

I must admit my cloth ears do have difficulty establishing the tune you have used, however the sentiment is great and it’s a wow with the ladies.

Moreover, as we, all know most song lyrics look terrible on their own.
I hope you do not mind a suggestion, here is a slightly different arrangement, hum it, see what you think.

That moonlight night,I’ve often pined.

Oh moonlight night, I, easy find,

Your love light shines on, oh so kind,

All thro, the moonlight night.

Best of luck,

Mor.

Enjoyed reading this Ron...took me back to camping, traveling over the ocean, while sitting on the veranda and watching the moon.
Reaching out holding us in its light, captivates and moves our minds!

Sorry, folks, but this one's a dud. I had the lyric in my head for a day or two before I wrote it down. When I did, I couldn't exactly remember what I was singing in my mind, and found that even the first line wasn't right. Over three days, longer than I ever take on any poem, I added a line or so a day and fussed with them because they weren't very good. My weekly deadline came up and I posted. I am totally surprised at all your kind remarks, but the poem stinks.

Last week I was feeling the affects of a persistent urinary tract infection that has come back twice since first discovered in December. I got back on another, very powerful but dangerous, antibiotic last Thursday and feel a bit better, but much of last week was spent with fever, headaches, drowsiness, and muscle aches, making it a bit harder to think about poetry. It's no excuse though. Still I'm going to leave the poem up as it is and may, or may not, revise it in the future.

Thanks everyone for your loyalty and uplifting remarks. Remember, I always like good, constructive criticism and will leave it posted no matter what you write because it's your opinion, and I have no right to delete it because I don't like it. There's a lot of good and bad and I like to take both in stride.

I love this, as I read it I can hear it in my head as a swing/big band sings the lyrics, crooning into the microphone, filling the room as lovers sway...I am only in my 30's, but I hate today's unfeeling crap that they call music...hence why I listen to "oldies" and write poems...this one is beautiful. Enjoyed it!

..."We will remember moonlit nights of old"...
Your poem, Ronald, takes that spiritual strength
from those pioneer 1930's crooners and...whisper
from the back of the throat and top of the head
...in your verse that is at heighten, natural, honest,
true, unadorned...form of heart conversation...telling
the simple story of...moonlit night...
It is a breath-taking, beautiful poem.
I'm in seventh heaven. Regards. Isabella.

An appreciative dedication to one of life's sublime experiences. (BTW, consider switching the order of these two stanzas. I think it would help maintain the momentum, where with the present order, there is an anticlimactic moment with "...leave us nevermore." Just a subjective reaction. Carry on.

We watch your reflection off the waves,

As they gently gurgle against the shore.

Moonlit night, leave us nevermore.

Moonlit night.

Release your secrets ever more,
