A small girl on a pony
Skinny legs wrapped around the chubby equine body
Loud laughter bursts forth from the child
Soft nickers from the pony as they near home
Then, tears for the loss of home
Fireflies become chiggers
No one here knows who she is
Wild freedom replaced with work and fear
The same small girl labors to be good
But what is that – to be good?
If she knew, she would be and then…
Heal the non-visible wounds, forever kept open and raw

.. karen, to me, this piece reveals how the heart ventures to find peace in a cruel world. heartwrenching, magnificently rendered, mike
So sad...reminds me of my piece 'Child No Longer'. I tell you, even though some people were never meant to be parents...God keeps His hands on their children anyway, and oft times they turn out alright. Sometimes, our cruelty to each other is just amazing.
Reminds me so much of children sold into child sex rings. What horrors they must face. A raw emotive write that brings it all home. If I could have but one wish in this life it would be that all children enjoy a carefree childhood and that they be allowed to retain their innocence.
