I have uttered many of these phrases myself--just some thoughts

Often life is just plain tough.

When down and out,

And the boot keeps kicking

Words come ringing from all sides:

“Just hang in there”

“You’re strong, you’ll be okay”

“It is probably for the best anyway”

“You will land on your feet,

you always do”

“God won’t give you

what you can’t handle”

“It will work out”

And, so, there you have it

So many things we say

Blurted out without thought

Just emitted as the “right” thing to do

But to one going through a Hell

All of these just sound trite

You are so right! They are just words--but they aren't empty words. Behind them are persons who care, and even if they are helpless to help you, they say what they hope will make you feel better. We've all been to the point you speak of, and you have expressed it beautifully how a person in pain feels.

Excellent wisdom. All too often, we search for "the right thing to say," when sometimes a hug or a kind deed can convey what a suffering person needs most.

A deep and thought provoking write. Been there and didn't want to hear what others had to say, I felt within like saying, how would you know, you've not been where I am, you've not gone through what I have! Their words fell upon deaf ears...but when the load had been lightened and the worries lifted, as well as the torment gone, I recalled all those words that were spoke to me, and realized that it was just their way of expressing their feelings and how much they cared! Hang on my friend...

Yes and perhaps if taken in context they are a little trite but...
when people really care for you they often are at a loss as to what to say, they may ache as much as you do feeling pain because you they know you are in pain and they cannot do or say anything that will really help. It is then that the old cliches surface and we should learn to take them not at face value but as a reaching out or caring the same as a warm hug from an old friend or a kiss from a loved one. Anyway that is just my thoughts on it dear Karen for what they are worth...

Yes that's true. It would be nice if people would support those struggling in their own words.
