Profound distance

So much separates us

In ways more profound than miles

Profound depths fill the distance

With the words unshared with one another

I peer at a recent photograph

Into the depths beyond the lenses' focal point

My vision searches for the essence

Of who you are and what is real

The antique chair of sturdy oak

Perhaps the latest yard-sale find

A magazine lying open on the floor

By your coffee cup from breakfast (your favorite one with roses)

Dried flowers from your garden, hanging upside down

On the mantle filled with childhood treasures

The little things within your world

Tears held back, because I know...

A bittersweet lament of the way relationships fall apart. I sometimes wonder that we have any left at all...Excellent poem, Karen!

Karen, this is sad and heart rendering...it's sad when we live close with another person and yet, they are like a stranger...we search to find them, but nothing can burst to open their bloom. I found this to be well written and in a voice of searching for an answer.

The realization that love is lost and cannot be recaptured resounds in this poem.

As the title hints this write like the subject it covers is deep and so poignantly sad that you want to reach out and offer hope...but there is none to offer, it is too late.
